About the Monitoring Platform
Accelerating the implementation of the African Union Roadmap on Harnessing the Demographic Dividend
This innovative monitoring platform designed to accelerate the implementation of the African Union Roadmap on Harnessing the Demographic Dividend is the product of a strategic partnership between the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (Sub-Regional Office for West Africa, Technology, Innovation, Connectivity and Infrastructure Division and the African Centre for Statistics) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) West and Central Africa Regional Office. The Monitoring Platform is informed by the mandate received by ECA and UNFPA from the African Union Commission to support countries in the implementation of the "African Union Roadmap on Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in the Youth", from 2017.
This strategic framework, based on the first-of-its-kind sub-regional survey on the implementation of the AU Roadmap, fills key implementation gaps and provides a results-oriented mechanism for countries to report on and assess their progress. This empowers member States to more effectively direct their programmatic and budgetary resources towards targeted investments in youth.
Beyond monitoring, the platform also fosters knowledge exchange, cross-learning serving as a hub for sharing experiences and best practices to support the effective implementation of this continental roadmap.
